Since 2010, Charlotte Mechanical has helped more than its customers stay warm during the cold season months. What started nine years ago as a small donation of coats from owners Steve and Nancy McLaughlin and their friends, has now become the company’s largest community event. Through the love, generosity and help of special partnerships, the Coat Drive continues to grow each year. Our goal is to collect 5,000 coats for the Salvation Army this year! We invite you to help us keep Charlotte warm.
The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte has served the residents of Mecklenburg and Union Counties since 1904 with care and encouragement to people in need every day. All coats collected will be distributed to their men, women and children’s shelters and the Boys and Girls Clubs. Charlotte Mechanical funds everything 100% with zero cost to The Salvation Army or any location. Hear from a few Charlotteans who have already received coats from the Charlotte Coat Drive during this WBT interview.
As of Nov. 15, 2019, the ninth annual Charlotte Coat Drive has officially concluded. But, we’ve heard from so many of you that you couldn’t make it to our Warmup Finale Party but have coats to spare, or you made it out and were so inspired, you want to continue. So – even though the official campaign has concluded, together, we can still help keep Charlotte warm!
You can donate your new or gently used coat through December at the Charlotte Mechanical office. Please get in touch with us (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you have coats to donate, and we'll make sure to point you in the right direction.
A huge, warm thank you to the Charlotte community and our 65+ Barrel Partners throughout the Greater Charlotte area that helped us collect a record-breaking number of coats (almost 3,000 and counting!) this year.
Whether you’ve already cleaned out your closet and donated coats or you still need to drop off men's, women's or children's coats, all are welcome to join us for some fun at our Warmup Finale Party. We’ll keep you warm all day! In the morning, warm up with coffee and Chick-fil-A biscuits. At lunchtime, "warm up" your winter look with a makeup tutorial led by professional (Charlotte celebrity) makeup artist, Lindsey Regan Thorne. In the afternoon, warm up those muscles with one of three outdoor workouts.
So, bring your office, your family or your best friend to enjoy entertainment, food, activities and more as we all come together to keep Charlotte warm!

If you can’t make it out to one of our Barrel Partner locations, or maybe you don’t have any coats to give, you can always make a monetary donation to The Salvation Army of Greater Charlotte. All the money donated will go toward buying new coats for those in need. Those coats will be distributed to Salvation Army’s shelters and Boys and Girls Clubs in Charlotte.
